01

Die Geschichte der Konsole

PlayStation 2 launched in Japan in March 2000 and internationally later that year. It could play many original PlayStation games as well as its own software.[1]

DVD playback gave it a role beyond games. Network and hard-drive support varied by model and region; the 2004 slim redesign included Ethernet.[1]

Historische Bedeutung

A long-running platform

Its sustained software output and hardware revisions carried the platform well beyond its launch period. Historical compatibility does not imply Game Capsule support.[1]

Sony’s official history reports more than 160 million PS2 consoles sold worldwide; this is a rounded threshold, not an exact total.[6]
