01

The console story

Game Boy Advance replaced the upright design with a horizontal layout and shoulder buttons. Its ARM processor was a substantial architectural departure from Game Boy Color.[1]

The original screen had no built-in illumination. The SP brought an illuminated display and rechargeable battery; the Micro emphasized size and a backlit screen, while dropping older Game Boy cartridge compatibility.[1]
