The console story

Neo Geo Pocket Color arrived in 1999, soon after the monochrome machine. Its game library included fighting games, sports titles and portable adaptations of arcade series.[1]

SNK’s changing business circumstances cut short its international retail presence. A smaller New Neo Geo Pocket Color revision appeared in Japan.[1]

Why it mattered

A distinctive handheld library

Games were designed around a compact display and directional stick, rather than reproducing the home Neo Geo’s hardware.[1]

Its library earned a lasting enthusiast following, but SNK’s withdrawal from Western markets curtailed its commercial life.[1]
