The console story

Saturn launched in Japan in November 1994. Sega connected its home platform with the related ST-V arcade board, helping bring arcade games into the living room.[1]

Its multi-processor design supported rich 2D games alongside 3D software. Regional libraries differed substantially, with a strong Japanese selection.[1]

Why it mattered

An arcade-centered library

Fighting games, shooters and Sega arcade conversions became central to the system’s identity, alongside original games such as NiGHTS.[1]

Saturn found a stronger position in Japan than in North America, where competition and its launch strategy limited its reach.[1]

Defining games

Years refer to the earliest release of the named version. Games are historical references; GameCapsule does not distribute them.
